Hundreds of native and rare species grow in the Botanic Garden. Self-guided, as well as guided, tours are available of the 65 acres attraction. Located in the Montecito foothills to the east of Santa Barbara, Lotusland is a garden estate spanning 37 acres. Designed by a former opera singer and socialite, Madame Ganna Walska, who made her home here for over 40 years, Lotusland is a treasure of exotic plants and horticultural techniques. Lotusland is made up of several themed gardens including the Fern Garden, the Theatre Garden, and the Topiary Garden. The Zoo is actually located in a lush botanical garden with cacti, native plants and exotic landscaping that are designed as formal gardens and lawn areas.
